Our History

How it all started

Established in 2009, in Victoria, Australia, AVPD is a unique group of musician comprised of paramedics as well as private members.  We welcome new members including social support members.

AVPD started with two guys, Graham Mummery and Don Ormiston who had a vision. They had already been playing as the Ceremonial Team for Ambulance Victoria so it seemed a natural transition to form a band. They commissioned and registered a tartan and AVPD was born. We are actually the first ambulance band that is outside of Scotland to have a tartan registered.

Since our humble beginnings, we have played all over Victoria and have enjoyed some exciting gigs overseas as well.  We have the performance experience to make your event uniquely yours and a day you and your guests will always remember.

Our play outs include Anzac Day at the Seymour RSL, the opening of the new Ambulance Victoria Stations, Clan Balls, community fetes, funerals and festivals. We have a ceremonial piper and drummer for formal events, a mini band for festivals, fetes or small functions and a full band for a clan or gala ball. Our bagpipers and drummers are ready to give you whatever music and style you need to make your event special and memorable.

we welcome you to come by and check us out!

We practice every Tuesday night in South Melbourne.
